Paul Giganti Obituary
Giganti was found unresponsive at his Philadelphia home. The death remained under police investigation Friday.
Giganti competed on the most recent season of "Hell's Kitchen." Although he didn't win the Season 16 competition that aired from Sept. 23, 2016, to February 2017, he reached the top five. He was eliminated on the Jan. 19 episode.
At the time of his death, he operated the Philadelphia restaurant Birra on East Passyunk Avenue.

Giganti was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. The self-taught chef had aspirations to become an engineer, but he ended up working at a restaurant while he was in college.
In an interview with mytakeontv.com following his experiences on "Hell's Kitchen," Giganti explained how he ventured into the culinary business.
"I got into a little bit of a trouble … and I had a chef, who was working at the restaurant who said, 'Look, kid, you’ve got a little talent for this. You can keep ripping and running and hit that jail cell, or you can do something that you’ll always find work.'
"He kind of took me under his wing. ... I just worked diligently for him, and it was just a job that I had that I enjoyed. I figured out that I was actually good at it, and then, so the story goes."

I´ve loved watching your passion for cooking on Hell´s Kitchen. You were an all around nice guy and very decent to your costars on the show. Wanted to see Paulie thriving, after watching reruns of Season 16 HK, so looked him up.
I´m so saddened by finding he passed so young. Please know he made a difference in this world, and there´s more love out here for him than he ever could have realized. RIP fine young man

Paul was one of a kind. Truly one of the most interesting people I ever had the privilege to get to know. My deepest sympathy goes out to all of you in this devastating time.
Paul & I lived together back in the University of Pittsburgh dorms. I hadn't seen Paul in several years, still I'm heartbroken to hear the news. As a suburban kid, Paul took me under his wing and shared with me his 'city philosophy', honed on the streets of Flatbush & the waves of Coney Island.
I'll never forget him. I'm going to miss my old friend, his intelligence, his wit, and of course his Brooklyn swagger. God bless you all.

I am so sorry for your loss. Paul was a joy to watch on Hell's Kitchen, but you can be proud of how many he no doubt encouraged with his situation. There are many young ones that just need an example, hope, someone to inspire them and I'm very sure Paul did that. So, may knowing others loved and cared for him give you some comfort and strength, as well as your memories and most of all, prayers.
