Tim Hague Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 19, 2017.
Tim Hague, a former UFC fighter turned boxer, died Sunday, June 18, 2017, after a boxing match in his native Canada, according to multiple news sources. He was 34.

CTV's Dan Grummett confirmed Hague's death. He also relayed a statement from the fighter's family.

"It is with incredible sadness, sorrow, and heartbreak to report that Tim has passed away today," the statement said. "He was surrounded by family, listening to his favourite songs. We will miss him so greatly. We ask for privacy during this difficult time."

Hague lost the Friday night bout in a knockout by Adam Braidwood in Alberta. Hague sustained a severe brain injury during the fight, according to Sportsnet. He was being treated in an Edmonton, Alberta, hospital since the fight, but he died there Sunday.

Hague, who also was known as the Thrashing Machine, was born May 9, 1983, in Boyle, Alberta. He received a bachelor's degree from Augustana University College in Camrose, Alberta, as well as a degree in elementary education from the University of Alberta in Edmonton. He taught elementary school for a time before switching to a career in mixed martial arts.

During his overall career from 2006 to 2016, Hague earned 21 wins in 34 matches, with 13 losses. After signing with the UFC, he won his first bout in 2009 against former professional kickboxer Pat Barry in an upset. From 2009 to 2011, Hague competed in five UFC matches. In addition to his MMA and UFC matches, he also competed in the World Series of Fighting and King of the Cage, where he went 11–0 and was the King of the Cage Canada champion in the heavyweight division.

Hague had begun focusing on boxing since the middle of last year, but he had three consecutive losses during a nine-month period.

Belinda and family, you are on my mind frequently since I learned of Tim's passing. I remember seeing him in the EPC hallways as a substitute teacher. Both my sons were taught by him. He was a sub that no one messed with! Bruce and I watched his first fight with UFC and kept track of him after that. There are no words to describe how sad and sorry we feel for your loss. It was a pleasure to know him so briefly and knew what an incredible man he was!
