Florence Steinberg Obituary
Steinberg’s death was reported by one of her longtime friends, comic book creator Larry Hama, in a post on Facebook.
“I am grieved to report that ‘Fabulous’ Flo Steinberg passed away this morning after complications from a brain (aneurysm) and metastatic lung cancer,” Hama wrote.

Florence R. Steinberg, who was born March 17, 1939, near Boston, inspired the Marvel Comics character Fabulous Flo. Steinberg was a fan favorite at comic book conventions.
In a news release Sunday, Marvel paid tribute to Steinberg.
“We are incredibly saddened to hear of Flo Steinberg’s passing and send our deepest condolences to her friends and family,” it read. “Flo has always been the heart of Marvel and a legend in her own right. She will be forever missed and always loved by all of us here at Marvel.”
“As Stan Lee’s secretary, Flo assumed the task of taking care of the ever increasing piles of fan mail and Marvel Merry Marching Society memberships,” Marvel wrote in a tribute to Steinberg on the company’s website. “Although the company began to grow with some speed, she remained in charge of this for five years, crafting Marvel’s unique connection to its fans and — to hear freelancers tell it — creating a welcome atmosphere for all who came through the offices in person.”
Hama wrote on Facebook that Steinberg will be interred at the Jewish cemetery in Kerhonkson, New York. Plans are underway for a memorial this fall that Hama pledged to announce via Facebook.

I knew Flo since I was a teen-age Marvel fan in the 60s. At one time in the 70s after she left Marvel, we worked across the street from each other and occasionally had lunch together. We saw each other at comic conventions. During her last few months, we called each other occasionally. I'm sorry we didn't get to have one more conversation.
My condolences to her family and friends. She'll be missed by all of us.
