Hurricane Harvey Victims Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 29, 2017.
The Houston Chronicle reports that, as of Tuesday, Aug. 29, more than 20 people are dead or presumed dead in the Houston-area floods that have followed Hurricane Harvey’s landfall in southeastern Texas.

Local authorities expect that number to rise in the days to come, as receding floodwaters begin to allow a full assessment of the destruction wrought upon the region.

Early victims of the flood include a Houston police officer who drowned inside his patrol vehicle; an elderly Santa Fe woman who died when her oxygen tank failed after losing electricity; a Porter woman killed when a tree fell, crashing into her home; and 18 other confirmed and unconfirmed fatalities across Harris, Galveston, and Montgomery counties thus far.

The Chronicle quotes Galveston County medical investigator John Florence’s observation that: “There’s more deaths than that, but we don’t know if they’re storm-related.”

Numerous emergency-relief organizations are currently working to bring aid to the millions of people affected by Harvey’s storm waters, the worst that Texas has ever seen.

The Chronicle has published a list of more than 30 disaster-response groups whose Harvey relief efforts are in need of support, ranging from local food banks to the Salvation Army to animal shelters. You can access the entire charity list here and choose which specific group or groups you may wish to support.

To the Families and Friends of Hurricane Harvey Victims.

Words cannot express how sorry we are for your loss A wise man once said: The swift do not always win the race, nor do the mighty win the battle, nor do the wise always have the food, nor do the intelligent always have the riches, nor do those with knowledge always have success, because time and unexpected events overtake them all. We share your sorrow .

To see my hometown destroyed by a natural disaster was heartbreaking but then to hear of the people who suffered through it and lost their lives whether they were in the wrong place at the wrong time or sacrificing themselves to save others, there are no words to describe the pain. I can't imagine the pain of the all the victim's families and friends. All of you have been in my thoughts and prayers and all I can say is that I pray you are comforted during this difficult time by the God of all comfort who is having "thoughts of peace" toward you "to give you a future and a hope." Many hugs and lots of love to everyone in Texas.
