Drew Wahlroos Obituary
Wahlroos had been a standout linebacker at the University of Colorado from 1999 to 2002. He played professionally in Europe before signing with the St. Louis Rams of the NFL. He appeared in 21 games over the course of two seasons from 2004 – 2005.
According to the Daily Camera, he was the second well-known UC football player to die by suicide in the past year. Former running back Rashaan Salaam died in December of 2016 at the age of 42.
Former teammates described Wahlroos as a tough football player and hard worker, but more than that, as a good person.
CU defensive lineman Justin Bannan told the Daily Camera: “I think what just sticks out to me in thinking about Drew is what a great man he was, what a big heart he had, what a nice guy he was.”
In recent years greater media attention has been focused on the mental health of former and current football players due to the link between chronic traumatic encephalopathy, or CTE, and suicidal behavior. It is not known whether Wahlroos was suffering from CTE.

I'm deeply saddened by this news. I grew up with Drew "D-Dub" in Poway and remember him being a great friend, exceptional athlete, but remained humble. You will be missed brother. My prayers are with you and your family.

My sincere condolences to the Wahlroos family over the loss of Drew. I still remember that little kid on my Pop Warner team that was so upset that he missed two extra points when we lost to RB. He made up for it big time in our bowl game two weeks later. Having coached him again in high school was a pleasure. He was such a great kid and I knew he would make It big one day. I am deeply saddened to hear about his passing. We will all miss him dearly.
