Mogadishu Truck Bomb Attack Victims Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 15, 2017.
A truck bomb exploded outside of a hotel in Mogadishu, Somalia, killing 231 people and injuring 275, according to multiple news sources.

Abshir Abdi Ahmed, a Somali senator, announced the number of dead and injured Sunday, citing doctors at hospitals, according to NBC News.

The attack is believed to be the deadliest ever in Somalia.

President Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed declared three days of mourning and asked for people to donate blood for wounded victims. "I am appealing all Somali people to come forward and donate."

Local media reported that families have come to the area of the bomb blast to look for family members.

Police official Ibrahim Mohamed told AFP news agency the death toll is likely to rise. "There are more than 300 wounded, some of them seriously," he said.

This is really horrendous, unlike any other time in the past," said Dr. Mohamed Yusuf, the director of Medina hospital.

The United States condemned the attack saying "such cowardly attacks reinvigorate the commitment of the United States to assist our Somali and African Union partners to combat the scourge of terrorism."
