Egypt Rawda Mosque Attack Victims Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 24, 2017.
At least 235 people were killed Friday while worshiping at a mosque in Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula, according to multiple news reports.

Locals from the town of Bir al-Abd said that militants set off an explosion outside Al Rawda mosque and then began gunning down people as they ran outside.

“The mosque would have been packed. It was frequented by the town’s residents, and on Fridays, travelers on the road often stopped to pray there,” the Washington Post reported.

No group immediately claimed responsibility for the violence. Most of the victims, the New York Times reported, were Sufi Muslims, a branch of the Muslim faith that the militant ISIS has long attacked as heretical.

President Donald Trump called the attack “horrible and cowardly” on Twitter Friday morning, saying that the world “cannot tolerate terrorism” and that a military solution must be forthcoming.

The U.S. State Department issued a formal statement: “The United States condemns in the strongest possible terms today’s attack that killed and wounded scores of worshippers at a mosque in Egypt. This terror attack on those at prayer is an unconscionable act of evil. We offer our condolences to the families and friends of the victims and wish those injured a quick recovery.

“We will continue to stand with Egypt and the Egyptian people as they face the scourge of terrorism.”

We invite you to share condolences for the Al Rawda terror attack victims in our Guest Book.

I have seen something further under the sun, that the swift do not always win the race, nor do the mighty win the battle, nor do the wise always have the food, nor do the intelligent always have the riches, nor do those with knowledge have success, because time and unexpected events overtake take them all. (Ecclesiastes 9:11)

My heart and deepest sympathy God's out to all of you.
