He's one of my top five favorites in the history of golf! Integrity comes to mind when I think of Gene. A young kid watching golf could not have a better inspiration . He played and represented right up there at the top. It hurts losing giants like him, but he sure left a lot of wonderful memories for us to carry on with. Prayers go out to all of his family and also for his memory.

Gene was born five months before me. His grandmother, Muriel (Lomas) Littler and my grandfather, William John Lomas, were brother and sister. I corresponded often with Muriel and Fred, but only a few times with Gene (to my regret). Like yours, my heart is saddened with his passing, but we have the assurance that he is in heaven rejoicing with other family members who are there and were waiting to greet him. He will be missed here, but know that some day we will all be together. In the meantime, may God give you great comfort and peace as you continue your journey here.

February 22, 2019

May your hearts soon be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times together as you celebrate a life well lived.

By the time I was learning to play golf, Gene Littler was already a PGA legend. I never could master his consistency on the links, but he provided a strong template toward that goal. Gene was one of the greatest to ever play the game, and an excellent mentor for a young boy in the 1960s. Rest In Peace, Mr Littler.

Watching Gene play golf was such an honor. He will not only be remembered as a great golfer but also as a classy gentleman. My condolences to his family and friends.

February 20, 2019

One of the great comeback stories in sports history. Gene was an excellent tour player, with a remarkably smooth and beautiful swing. Hence the nickname "Gene The Machine!" And every time I saw him play, he came across as a pleasant and down-to-earth gentleman.

Thanks for all of the great play and classy comportment, Gene. Rest in Peace.

Something youd never hear of today with the "team" that golfers have surrounding them today. 76 British Open, Gene finished and after signing his card, asks his caddie John Sorely, to secure a ride for he and his family to the Manchester airport the following day. John asks George Morris and myself if wed oblige. George took his clubs back to his home since Genes familys luggage would fill the trunk of my car. So a professional golfer entrusts his clubs to someone he doesnt know to bring them to the airport the following day and I, all of 21 yrs old, driving an American car on British roads, drive Gene and his family an hour to MAN. Needless to say, all arrived safely. A truly gentle man and role model. May God bless your family with peace during this time.

My first year on the PGA Tour, I would look for Gene to play my practice rounds with him. It was so much fun playing golf with Gene. On one occasion, I told him I couldn't play practice rounds with him anymore. He gave me a funny look and sad why. Your out driving me on every hole with that smooth swing, and it's starting to upset me. We both had a good laugh. What a great friend. He will be missed.
