To the Dillard Family:
We are very sorry about your loss.
We hope these words help a little...
Hold fast to your memories, to all of the cherished moments of the past, to the blessings and the laughter, the joys and the celebrations, the sorrow and the tears. They all add up to a treasure of fond yesterdays
that you shared and spent together, and they keep the one you loved close to you in spirit and thought.
The special moments and memories in your life will never change. They will always be in your heart, today and forevermore.

To Terri & family,
Our sincere condolences on the passing of Dad.
We only found out today.
He was a good friend, a great sportsman and a truly gentle man.
Missing his big birthday celebrations was one of my greatest regrets.
Time passes, but we will see each other soon...
With love from Australia,
The Bakers, Faith Baker.

I was so saddened to find out about Mr. Bones Dillards passing. I first heard about him about 7 years ago after watching 42, The Jackie Robinson Story. My father said yeah he was a great athlete but the greatest athlete I ever knew was Harrison Dillard. He then proceeded to tell me how he and his friends uses to set up the hurdles for Mr. Dillard. He went on to tell me all about him. At the time my father had cancer and I thought it would be nice ti write Mr. Dillard a letter and see if he would contact my dad. Well he called my dad and my mom said she was in the shower and heard my dad yell Harrison Dillard, no way. They reminisced about growing up in Berea, the Olympics, and life in general. They kept in touch and every once in a while would talk. I still say the best gift I ever gave my dad was getting Bones to call him. I tell everyone, especially the people I meet from Ohio, about Harrison Bones Dillard. My condolences to the Dillard family.

Harrison and John were my cousins. My greatgrandmother, Sara Robinson, and his mother were cousins. I think my mother called her cousin Teera. My first name is Dillard. I was not named for him. We loved him because of our relationship. My deepest condolences for the lost of this great man.

My Dad competed in the same track meet in Germany in 1945, during the occupation. He said he'd never seen any track athlete as good as Harrison Dillard. He loved that Dillard went on to compete and win in the Olympics. What a life!

To Teri and the Dillard Family: I was blessed to know Mr. Dillard having worked with him at the Cleveland School District. Working with him, Mildred Madison and Stanley Tolliver taught me a lot about the workings of the District. Mr. Dillard was always the "best dressed" man with so much wisdom and common sense who took his job seriously and did it well and encouraged others to do the same. I was one of those that he encouraged. Being in his presence was an honor and even after retirement his phone calls and conversations were appreciated. The friendship was priceless and even in his greaatness - of which he never boasted - I was humbled by his loving and gentle spirit and the many ways that he gave of himself through service to everyone. I will always remember him fondly and pray that the family will be comforted with beautiful memories of love. Mr. Harrison Dillard will be missed.

Harrison is and was one of the finest men, person and human being who I ever had the opportunity to meet and speak with on a fairly regular basis. He embodied all that is good with humanity and is the true example of honesty, integrity and humility in life and in athletics. Harrison took time to speak with many, many people during his lifetime, and he treated each and every one the same way -- with respect and dignity.
Harrison had a special relationship with Baldwin Wallace University and its student-athletes. He dedicated his life to young people, to education and to the sport of track and field.
More importantly, thank you, Harrison, for your service to our country. You risked your life for the freedoms we have today, and you did it selflessly. Thank you for being a great husband, father, grandfather and mentor to so many.
My deepest condolences to the entire Dillard Family, including his daughter Terri and granddaughter, Izmailia.
God bless Harrison Dillard, a true American hero.

I worked with Harrison Dillard when he was appointed Business Manager for Cleveland Public Schools while the School District was in Financial Receivership to the State of Ohio. He was like a breath of fresh air breathing new life into improving School District operations!!! He was a very wise, humble, compassionate man who knew how to get the job done during the most trying of times. God Bless you Harrison and thank you for all you did. Now share some of your humor and wisdom with God's angels in heaven!

Harrison was always so encouraging to me. I loved and appreciated his kindness to me throughout the years. We were both from Cleveland, ran track, won medals and world records. Having so much in common, brought our friendship in harmony with great respect for one another. I will miss my forever friend. Praying for the family.

Mr. W. Harrison Dillard (Bones) was a man of integrity. He gave me an opportunity to be his secretary when I was 18 years old with the Cleveland Board of Education. I appreciate all that I learned from this amazing gentleman. He has his wings now. Terri, I am so sorry for your loss.

Harrison was an incredible athlete but a better person. I was overjoyed to induct him into our Hall of Fame at the Olympics Trials. He was the most revered of the 12 track and field athletes inducted that night. He was nominated by another one of a kind athlete, Mal Whitfield. I will never forget it. R.I.P. Brother Dillard.
