Kemp was a regular cast member of the late-night comedy sketch show Fridays that aired from 1980 until 1982. She co-starred with Larry David and Michael Richards who later found fame on Seinfeld. Her other notable recurring role was on the M*A*S*H spinoff series AfterMASH. She appeared as Alma Cox in 22 episodes of the series.
