The Final Salute
“Brothers and Sisters in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.
This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to Steve our Brother in Arms, Fellow Legionnaire, Voyageur Militaire, VFW & DAV Comrade, and MOAA member. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Steve. And to Steve it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the devoted and selfless service he rendered to his country during WW-II, the Korean War, the Indo-China War, the Cuban Missile Crisis and the Vietnam War while serving in every rank from Pvt. To Col. first in the U.S Army Air Corps and then in the U.S. Air Force. We thank Steve for his many years of dedicated service to the American Legion, the 40&8 Society, the VFW, the DAV, the MOAA and as Director of the Barksdale AFB Retiree office. Steve, you were an untiring dedicated worker, a wonderful comrade and a strong supporter of the American Legion Post 14, Voiture 137 of the 40&8 Society, both Post 4588 and 5951 of the VFW, Chapter 30 of the DAV and the MOAA. We bid you adieu and a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Dear brother, ”Be at Ease. Rest in Peace”.
On behalf of the Legionnaires of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion, the Voyageur Militaires of Voiture 137 of the 40&8 Society, the comrades of VFW Post 4588 and 5951, and the members of MOAA we extend our sympathies and our condolences to Steve’s family and loved ones.
For all the Commanders of all ArkLaTex veteran’s organizations,
Carroll R. Michaud

After watching an incredible story about Col. dePyssler’s life on television this am I immediately googled him. There are so many amazing stories of true humanitarians amongst us!! He was certain one. I can only imagine how many people he helped and that certainly is the reason God kept him on this earth so long. I’m so happy to have seen this story it just makes me feel good. God bless all of you.

Col. D was such a powerful man, a man of great caring to so many thousands of active duty, veterans and widows--he and I have been friends 20 years, we worked together on many projects and I provided him with "whatever he needed", and boy was it fun! POW/MIA luncheons, WWII Veterans, Purple Heart Luncheons, Ave of Flags, it is fitting that he is remembered in Hoban Hall, the facility in which he hosted so many successful gathering of America's finest. As I rejoice in his life, I also share grief that he is no longer here with me, for 2 decades he has been my friend, my mentor, not sure if I should call him an Uncle or a Grandfather to me! Great respect for this man, true love for this man, may he rest in peace and may we carry on his tradition of caring for anyone that needs help.

Our heartfelt sympathy to all of Steve's family. He was an early mentor of mine and his guidance, counsel and leadership-by-example were lessons that served me well throughout my military career and beyond. His boundless energy and passion devoted to projects benefiting veterans, military members and their families as well as his community in general serve as inspiration and proof of what one person who cares can accomplish. I am grateful to have known him and to be counted as one he called "friend." Arlene joins me in keeping his family in our thoughts and prayers.

I only saw the Colonel through my dads window at the War Veterans Hm in Bossier City, La on June 1st. He was a roommate of my dad, not sure but I believe around March of 2020. My dad is Lewis Dodson & he has been moved to the 400 Wing at the nursing home. I did not get the pleasure of meeting him in person, but I wish I had. He had a long military career & looks like he did great service to our veteran men & women as well. Prayers for his family & friends.
