My name is also Joan Crosby and my father Nathan Crosby was Norm and Buddy´s first or second cousin. I always get asked if I am related and answer - distantly. While surfing my IPad I noticed that Norm´s wife´s name was, also, Joan.
I grew up in the Boston area and still live nearby. At my old age of 84, just decided to communicate on a whim. I do send my sympathies on behalf of the East Coast side of the family. Best regards, Joan

This was just a hello.

Dear Joanie,

We are so sorry for your sudden loss.

Norm was a Powerful Master of the Malaprop! My husband Robert and I were very close to Norm, he attended my husband's graduation at California State University at Northridge in June of 2000.

My husband is still grief stricken by the sudden loss. Not only was he a wonderful person inside and out he was also a hero among the up and coming comedians in Tokyo Japan. Ken Shimura from the island of Japan was one of Norm's favorite American performers, which can never be replicated, copied, or replaced.

Please rest in peace Norm, and God Bless Joanie and the rest of the family.

Sincerely,

Misato and Robert

As a youngster in the 1960s, I always looked forward to seeing Mr. Crosby and enjoying his use of incorrect words...as I was reading several grade levels above my own, I could enjoy many of them. My condolences for your loss, and may he rest in peace.

Funny, funny man. At times it took me a moment to fully understand what he just said.
Perfect timing with himself
EXPLAINING a skit. He made me laugh and for that I am grateful.
Mr. Norm, RIP, with the Saints
and Angels. The Lord is waiting
Make the Heavens laugh. They'll love it.
Condolences to family, friends
and everyone that loved you?

I just learned that(a personal favorite of mine), Norm Crosby, has passed away at 93. Norm was the master of the malaprop, which I will encourage the younger folks to look up. Like Picasso, who said that he first mastered portraits before developing cubism, Norm had a mastery of the English language that allowed him to substitute the wrong word (but one that sounded right) for the right word in many stories, to hilarious success. It was a more innocent time, and the humor was not as cutting...it was witty, and clever, and required some effort to keep up. Norm required his audiences to be "in" on the joke and to know what was wrong in his stories. He did not make it easy, but the reward was satisfying for the more intelligent listeners.
Norm goes the way of all of the great comedians of the 50's and '60s, off-stage right, to great appreciation and laughter.
I quote Norm often, and his line "Don't get miscconscrewed," is a staple of my joke-telling.
RIP Norm...I laughed well and long when you told a story, and if my friends did not quite get it, well that was a bonus for me!
Peace to Norm's family. Thanks, Norm!

What a humble and gracious man. I wrote a treatment for a show he agreed to emcee. The treatment did not mature into a real show. But I value the short time I was able to converse with him and appreciate his warmth and sincerity. He will always be in my cherished memories.

To his wife Joan and both his kids and extended family and friends I am so sorry for your loss and the worlds loss of such a kind and funny man. I've attached a photo of Norm from High School along with my father Mel Goverman who was a very close childhood friend and pal. In 1997 ( when my dad was very sick and visiting Los Angeles ) I happened to have connection with Joan for business purposes and I was lucky enough to get on the phone with him and asked him if he remembered my Dad ? To which he replied of course he did and I established a date for the two to have lunch. It meant so much to my father at the time and still to me till this day . Heaven is a funnier place now !

Norm was a very funny guy, who was also a great pitchman. Remembering him in those classic Natural Lite beer commercials, back in the '70s and '80s, still puts a smile on my face!

Rest in peace, Norm.

I saw Norm in NYC. A very funny guy indeed .
" I want 6' tombstone 2' thick
with the words engraved " I tried to tell you all I was sick "
so you'll know I was right when you go walking on a past
you tried to tell me I was well but look who's laughing last "
