Thank you for sharing him with us - It seems inadequate, however, thank you is all the English language has to express gratitude. I was one of the last 14 employees that the Honorable David Dinkins hired for the NYC Dept of Probation during his term as mayor. He was way too classy for NYC politics; the consummate gentlemen from the gang of 4 - however he loved us anyway. I am forever blessed by his encouragement and leadership example. I worked on technology projects and recall that he was on his way to Edgecombe to visit the facility to see what we had done to improve the reading and math levels of recidivists. Well, along the way, a woman had been struck by a car and Uncle Dave got out of his security vehicle to put his jacket under her head and wait for the ambulance with her. He was brilliant and when he didn't know a subject he surrounded himself with loyal people who were actually intelligent. Most importantly, he was a mayor for the people, not just black people. His integrity and core values are an attainable goal and I pray that the void his passing leaves is filled with wonderful memories. May his legacy live on forever.

What an incredible legacy he leaves behind. We pray that God continues to strengthen and comfort the family during this difficult time.

My deepest condolences with prayers. I met David N. Dinkins at his home on Riverside Drive, because my father lived in the same building. I have many great memories. Later I helped with his election as a single young Mother. He was a proud African American Black man of style. I'm trying to get all of my pictures together now & Joyce Dinkins was my father friend too. I thank their Spirit & Contributions. I will miss him! Brother David & Sister Joyce together again with God. Love All The Way...

As a young lady I went to interview Mr Dinkins at a function but when he walked im with his entourage I was so in awe of this man and struck by his commanding presence when he walked into the room all I could do was stare at him. This followed years of me loving him from afar and being so upset when he lost the election to Gulliani.Mr Dinkins was in that illustrious category with the likes of Ruby Dee and Ozzie Davis people I loved from afar.I am so happy we had him for so long and I know he is now resting in peace. WHAT A GREAT LIFE!!!YOU WILL BE MISSED.My condolences to the Dinkins family.

On two occasions, I have the incomparable pleasure of interacting with Mayor Dinkins. At the wake for Ms. Alberta Spruill, we chatted briefly because I was wearing a US OPEN windbreaker. 'Nuff said. The second occasion occurred while driving for the US OPEN and the Mayor was my passenger. There is no need to describe the way he was impeccably dressed and superlatively comported. I was in such awe I almost stepped well beyond the boundary line to invite myself to his home! What a pleasure to be in his company. My deepest condolences are sent to his family. How blessed are you to claim such a rich and inspiring legacy. May the peace that passes all understanding surround you now and always.

He encouraged us and complimented us for not giving up and standing up for our rights we were four women of color. SHIRLEY, IVETTE, PATRICIA, & THEATHER. WE appreciate what you did and said to us we will hold you in our hearts forever.

Mayor Dinkins wrote me a lovely letter in response to mine I offered a suggestion to help with a problem he had in the city. I kept the letter because I know he wrote it himself but more because of the way his words touched my heart. I know he is an angel now, but he was such a gentleman and his words mean even more to me now. Rest in Peace, Mr. Mayor. You are in good company now. Bernice Lock, Iselin, NJ

I once worked in the administration of Mayor Dinkins for the NYC health department. He also was a member of the Marine Corps and our last encounter was at the awarding of the US Congressional Gold medal, Washington DC 2012 we sat next to one another at the honoring ceremonies. The nation should thank him greatly for his service in the Marine Corps and to New York City betterment. As William Shakespeare once said, we will not see his kind again. But we can all learn from his example

November 27, 2020

To the family,

I wanted to extend my condolences for your loss. Please know that God is a true source of comfort and strength and he will heal the broken hearted. (Ps. 147:3) Cherish the wonderful memories!

President David Dinkins and Mayor of New York City. I worked for his administration and the health department. I also encountered him during the awarding of the United States Congressional Gold medal (bronze replica), a family relative of ours was posthumously awarded the medal and Mayor Dinkins and I sat next to one another during the ceremonies in Washington DC. He served the nation and was a person to be admired. We last spoke a year ago and I had tried to contact him on the loss of his wife.
