To his much loved family and friends, my sincere condolences on his passing last year. His essence as a wonderful human being is so clear in his autobiography. I am humbled by his acceptance of all that came his way, good, bad or indifferent. His straightforward description when he felt had acted badly is something so few people are willing to stand up and own up to.

I wish I had met Fred and wish I'd been able to chat with him on Hockey Night in Canada. I sensed that he was a very special person and would have made a memorable interview. RIP

my heartfelt blessings to the beloved Freddie, Loretta and family. I was so honoured and humbled to work with Freddie in Chiefs and Champions. He called me, and kindly thanked me for getting "it right", when credited with the "slapshot" . He said we "made him a star". He is a star, in the sky, on the ice and forever in our hearts. aho .

As a young teenager growing up in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, I recall the name of Fred playing hockey for the Moose Jaw Canucks same team as my brother Norman Johnson. Do know there had been many conversations in our home in regards to those who played hockey with Norm, perhaps that is the reason why I recall the name of Fred Sasakamoose. I appreciate being able to forward my condolences to the family for your loss, a gentleman I knew of and being the first Indigenous player with his desire to play professional hockey. To Fred’s family and friends, sharing your sorrow, please accept my condolences, may memories bring you comfort, I know they will.

To the family, many, many friends, colleagues and fans of this wonderful man Mr. Fred Sasakamoose. He was one of first inspiration for indigenous hockey players in Canada. That is the legacy Mr. Fred Sasakamoose left behind memorable in his hockey career that will not be forgotten. We would like to pass on our condolences to the Fred Sasakamoose family. Fred was an amazing man and leaves an incredible legacy. I had the honor to play hockey with Fred in Junior for the Moosejaw Canucks. We were also roommates and became good friends during those three years. We both learned a lot about hockey and life as we were only 16 years of age and away from our homes and family. He was a great hockey player but most importantly an honorable man and a great ambassador for our country. He will be remembered by all of us as a man of honor, belief, integrity, and dedication to his community, his family and his friends.

My condolences to Loretta and family. Fred’s cup ran over, and he filled the cup of everyone he met. I had the honor of getting to know Freddy when he dropped by for coffee when I lived close to the Atahkakoop reserve. His spirit was peaceful, and a joy to behold. He is a beautiful man, and will not soon be forgotten.

He changed the NHL for the better and gave hope to the indigenous people. He inspired millions and made them proud of their culture and heritage . I'll always remember watching him play and memorizing his moves, he had a great slap shot. Thank you for all that you have done, you will never be forgotten.

He was an extraordinary talent and a true gentleman. I had the pleasure of meeting him and he was very gracious and kind. My kids grew up idolizing him and dreamed of playing in the NHL. We finally had someone who looked like us. His impact is immeasurable and it is a great loss for the indigenous people. He will be greatly missed. He inspired me to play hockey in college. To say he changed my life would be an understatement, I am deeply saddened and am so sorry for your loss. I will always be grateful for his contribution to the game of hockey, he gave hope and something to believe in to the indigenous people. We will forever remember him.

A super player and gentleman, I met him and he was a class act. I always remember being a kid and watching his games, my father loved analyzing his strategy. He changed the world of hockey for the better and gave the indigenous people something to dream and inspire to. I'll always remember him with such fond memories. Fred was invited to give the inspirational speech at the opening of the Saskatchewan Winter Games in North Battleford in February 2018. I was one of the volunteers and my grandson was one of the competitors in hockey from The Lakeland zone. I was very impressed with his speech and how he motivated the competitors that evening. I am sure he will be missed by family,friends and the hockey world.

Please accept our deepest sympathy for your loss. I am writing on behalf of my father, Roy Pollard of Blaine Lake. Dad passed away three years ago but I know he would have written if he was still alive. I have memories of meeting Fred as a young boy living in Blaine Lake and my Dad talking fondly about how he and Fred played hockey together when they were young and I think they also tried out for the P.A. Minto's at the same time. I recall that the storied Dad had about the time they played together were full of fun and at times some crazy antics. In later life I recall they also golfed together with my mom and would reminisce about the good times they had together. May God comfort you and give you peace during this most difficult time of pain and sorrow.

My elementary students enjoyed hearing about Mr. Saskamoose during
our social studies lessons. I worked at Prince Charles School in Edmonton which catered to the Indigenous population.
