I attended many lectures by Steve, most recently a Zoom lecture he gave on elementary particle masses. I sent him a note about the subject . In 2020 in a paper I published, I referred to his book on Cosmology. When teaching, I used both his book on "The First Three Minutes," and also his book, "Gravitation and Cosmology."

Even in a high school teeming with brilliant achievers, including his fellow Nobel laureate-to-be Sheldon Glashow, it was already clear Steve was a leader of this talented cohort. As a science writer, I got to admire his achievements close up - and on occasion or two exchanged friendly notes with him. He’ll be missed not only by physicists but also by so many of us who looked to his lucid writing about the physical world.
