General Kanamine was my CO (LTC at the time) at the 1st MP Det (CI) in 1970. I have fond memories of the time that we served together. My heartfelt condolences to his family.

As a 21 year old lieutenant in the 716th MP BN, I recall the service of then LTC Kanamine. He personified the motto of MP's, "Of the Troops, For the Troops." As the former aide to General Abrams, he could secure "favors." He would solicit input on troops and pick one to visit General Abrams office and make a call home. He probably would be criticized today, but I thought it a brilliantly simple way to demonstrate his care for those under his command. We were fortunate to serve with him.
