I had just one interaction with Dave but it was memorable even to this day. I was a 15-yr old Tigers fan and my parents took me to a twi-night DH vs. Angels in late July 1978 as a B-day present. I got Nolan Ryan's auto on his 1969 Mets card and then stood near the dugout to see if any other players were around to sign. I had a bunch of 1978 Topps Angels player cards. Dave was standing by the dugout and actually struck up a conversation with me. I didn't have his card (his rookie card came out in 1979). But we talked for a bit before Game 1 and then he politely signed my program. He pitched well in Game 2 but took the loss. RIP, Dave!
