It is with a heavy heart that I read about Marlene’s untimely passing. My condolences on your loss.
I am a third-generation Palm Springs native my. Family having settled in Palm Springs in 1922. In late January, 1973, I had just finished my military service as a paratrooper and had returned to Palm Springs to get my college education. In late February, 1973, I saw an ad for caddies to participate in the Palmolive/Colgate Dinah Shore LPGA golf tournament at the then new Mission Hills country club. I submitted an application and was excepted to serve as ProAm caddie for Marlene Hagge and Palmolive/Colgate CEO George Henry Lesch. I did no know that caddies were required to run along side the player’s cart, but being a 22–year old ex-paratrooper, I had know trouble keeping along side of Marlene’s golf cart and was always there and at the ready when she stopped. I do remember that there was some concern for us ProAm caddies due to the Coachella Vally desert environment which hampered all the ProAm caddies but me. I distinctly remember Marlene and George nervously looking to see if I was in distress but I never was.
Marlene was so kind to me showing her concern about all that running in the desert heat and she tipped me very generously. I tried to refuse the tip but Marlene was very insistent that I had earned it. As a side note, years later, my Mother was office manager for Desert Oral Surgery when in walked Mr. Lesch. My mother mentioned that I was his and Marlene’s ProAm caddie in 1973 to which Mr Lesch stated: “boy could that young man run”.
Lastly, I recently found the shirt I wore for the the 1973 ProAm tournament with “HAGGE” emblazoned on the back along with my pass. I always intended on asking Marlene for a few minutes to relive a thoroughly enjoyed time. Alas, it is apparent that that opportunity was not to be. I’m thinking of placing the at Marlene’s gravesite.
Again my thoughts and prayers go out to you in Marlene’s family and circle of friends for these life affirming memories.

I’m sorry for your loss. May your memories give you peace and comfort of your loved one. Words fall short of expressing my sorrow for the loss of your loved one. May GOD be with you all during this difficult time. 1 Thessalonians 4:14For if we have faith that Jesus died and rose again, so too God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep in death through Jesus.
