Sheila Yost came into the world at home just over three pounds in Crystal Springs, Mississippi. At the age of five she backed into a gas heater and set her new dress on fire. Then she spent the next 13 months in the hospital enduring over seventy surgeries. She moved many times (3 to California) eventually winding up in Baton Rouge and graduated from Istrouma High School. Fast forward to the eighties with two children and husband Chuck, she came to her final home in beautiful Boone, NC. She served on numerous boards, the Appearance Commission, the Town Council, and was a major player in the purchase of the new Town Hall, the restoration of the Jones House Cultural Building, and was a staunch supporter of the Boone P.D. She made her mark on Boone. But after politics she was back doing what she loved the most, being a mom, Den Mother, etc. She loved children and they loved her. But possibly the best thing about Sheila was her cooking. Her rice was always perfect when combined with Cajun chicken gumbo or crawfish etouffee or red beans with lil' Smokey sausages or black-eyed peas or navy beans or chicken with vegetables, also beef stroganoff and chili. I never knew greens could taste so good. Her pies were always great, and her egg custard guaranteed her place in Heaven. Long ago in 1952, as she lay strapped to a bed in a Jackson, Mississippi hospital, she heard a nurse, (who thinking she was asleep tell another), "I don't think she's going to make it." Sheila remembers thinking to herself, "Oh yeah, that's what you think!" Shelia is survived by husband, Chuck; sons, Keith and Cory (Hope); two precious granddaughters, Genevieve and Sophia; nieces, Jackie Riley (Drew), Aubrey Garcia (Mike), Jennifer, and Sheila; nephews, Jake Duncan (Heather), Jerry Duncan, Jr.; stepson, Aaron Snyder; friends, Larry Greene, Dan Caldwell, Tom Redmond, Bob Neill, and Anna Isaacs, sister-in-law, Mary Yost Hallab and nephews, Nadim and Salem Hallab. Yost, Jr., and Evelyn; brothers, Joe Jr., and Johnny Duncan; aunt and uncle, Marlene, and Odell Bridges.
