Larry A. Sidie
VIROQUA, WI - Larry Alson Sidie, age 79, of Viroqua, WI, passed away with his family at his side on Monday, March 21, 2022, after a sudden terminal illness diagnosis. He was born on June 20, 1942, to Chancy and Doris (Knutson) Sidie. Larry was born and raised in rural Readstown, WI, where he graduated in 1960. He was an avid basketball player through his high school years. Larry married Sharon (Hirschfield) Nicks right out of high school and moved to Kenosha, where he worked at General Motors for a couple of years. They had two children, Randy and Tamara. Larry then moved his family back to Vernon County and farmed by Liberty Bar, near Viola, WI. After a few years, he purchased a larger farm on Salem Ridge by La Farge. Larry and Sharon later divorced, and he was married for a short time to Maureen (Elliott) Howell. They had one son together, Wade Sidie. Larry raised his children and farmed on Salem Ridge until he retired. He sold his farms and moved his son, Wade, and himself to rural Viroqua. After moving, he helped take care of his parents, Chancy and Doris, and his son, Wade, who was terminally ill. He devoted many years to his mom, dad, and son until their passing. Larry loved his past times of playing cards with friends in his younger days, coon hunting, and driving the countryside catching up with his Amish friends and horse trading. He was very passionate about horse pulling with his father. You could catch him conditioning his horses by hooking them up to a sled any day of the week out in the field. Larry belonged to the Wisconsin and Minnesota Horse Pullers Association for many years, and was inducted into the Wisconsin Hall of Fame in 2017. He was blessed with many friends locally and throughout the state because of his passion for horse pulling and Amish communities. After experiencing a stroke in 2015, Larry acquired many special care takers over the years who he thought the world of. He was a soft-spoken man with powerful words.
Larry is survived by his children: Randy (Vern Hanson) Sidie and Tamara (Guy) Nelson; a special stepson, William (Katreena) Howell, and their daughter, Nadya; one granddaughter, Starr (Ryan Onshus) Nelson; three step-grandsons: Brett, Michael and Cody, who he treated as his own grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, and son, Wade, Larry was preceded in death by his grandson, Preston Nelson; and two sisters: Dee Ann Hase and Delores Howell.
In accordance with Larry's wishes, no formal funeral services will be held with burial being in the Viroqua Cemetery. Thorson-Popp Funeral and Cremation Services in Viroqua is entrusted with his services.
Let Larry's memory live on in our hearts.
