Martin Hagen Obituary

Martin Glenn Hagen

WILTON - Martin Glenn Hagen, 73, of Wilton, passed away peacefully on Jan. 13, 2023, while surrounded by his loving family. A graveside memorial service will be held in spring at Rose Hill Cemetery, near Wilton.

Glenn, as he was known to his friends and family, was born on Dec. 16, 1949, in Bismarck to parents Martin and Donna Hagen. He was the first born of five children, and he attended grade school at Painted Woods #1, then graduated high school in Wilton. After serving his country in the United States Air Force, he attended North Dakota State School of Science. He worked briefly as a diesel mechanic before he started driving a semi-truck across the country. After leaving his job on the road, he joined his parents in farming and ranching on the Hagen homestead, southwest of Wilton.

With his trademark, unkempt beard, Glenn was the Santa lookalike in the Hagen clan and was lovingly called Uncle Bum by all his nieces and nephews. Glenn loved John Wayne movies and Publishers Clearing House. He was constantly donating whatever he could to the March of Dimes and local charities in our communities. He loved coffee, the corners of a fresh pan of brownies, and chicken fried rice - all things he enjoyed almost daily. You could always find him surrounded by puzzles - the Tribune puzzle pages lay solved across the kitchen table, and there was always a puzzle in progress in the living room. Glenn believed in space aliens - he even swore he saw a UFO on the farm once - and that a hard day's work brought the best sleep. While he might have been the quietest Hagen, he surely was the most interesting. He will be missed by everyone who was fortunate enough to know him.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Gunder and Alma Hagen, Victor and Grace Hartinger, and step-grandmother, Theresa Hartinger; parents, Martin and Donna Hagen; brother-in-law, Todd Wood; sister-in-law, Sandy Hagen; and a nephew, Josh Weir. Glenn is survived by his siblings, James Hagen, Grace Wood, Carol (Rod) Gigstad, and Cheryl Hagen; nine nieces and nephews, and two great nephews.
