Jane Truslow Edwards

Jane Truslow Edwards, 101, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 15, 2023, in her home. She was born on July 29, 1921, and led a remarkable life. A study of contradictions, Jane was a fiercely independent woman of thought and deed who passed away in the house where she was born more than 100 years before, having lived through 40% of American history.

In the 1950s, Jane achieved what was then a rare accomplishment for a young woman, owning and operating her own photography studio, Colony Studios, on the corner of Princess Anne Street and William Street. She was also a staff photographer for the Free Lance-Star and the official photographer for Mary Washington College for several years, where she forged lasting friendships with her peers at the school.

She is survived by her sisters, Nancy Withers and Page Shrum; and grandchildren, Lincoln, Adrian, and Russell Scaife, who brought her great joy throughout her life. Jane was preceded in death by her husband, James Edwards; daughter, Cathy Scaife; and siblings, Harriet Truslow, Pete Truslow, Noble "Blue" Truslow, and Dorothy Simpson.

Jane had a deep love for her family, and her memory will be cherished by all who knew her.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 21, 2023, at Hull's Memorial Baptist Church Cemetery. All are welcome to attend.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hull's Memorial Baptist Church, Fredericksburg.
