Lucia McFarland Obituary
Lucia Gray McFarland
May 25, 1990 - July 2, 2023
Lucia Gray McFarland left this world to be with Jesus on July 2, 2023, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, surrounded by her family and friends.
Lucia was born in Tulsa on May 25, 1990, the second of four sisters, to Stephen and Shelley Gray. Growing up, she spent many happy afternoons playing with her sisters, Lydia, Leah, and Laura, creating countless fun and imaginative games for them to play together. She took piano, flute, voice, ballet, tap, and Irish dancing lessons, and she was involved with Heartdance Ministries. Lucia graduated from Union High School in 2009 and Tulsa Community College in 2012, where she received her Associate in Arts in Theatre in 2012. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Music in 2015 from Northeastern State University.
While out two stepping one night in the summer of 2014, she met her future husband, Chris McFarland. They were married at Abiding Harvest United Methodist Church on November 12, 2016. She adored hiking and traveling and visited multiple national parks with him, including Yellowstone and The Grand Canyon. For her thirty-third birthday, they went on a vacation to Colorado and enjoyed a hot air balloon ride together, a longstanding item on their bucket list.
Lucia taught music to students at Anthem Road Academy in Tulsa and then for Damm Music Center in Wichita. She also worked for TCC in Tulsa and Friends University in Wichita. She was very expressive and had a gift for voices, funny faces, and humor, and that blossomed into a love of acting and singing over the years. She was involved in community theater, and some of her favorite roles included Tanya in "Mamma Mia," The White Witch in "The Chronicles of Narnia," Mrs. Peacock in "Clue," and the diction coach in "Singin' in the Rain." She was an operatic mezzo soprano and was thrilled about her acceptance to a Master of Music in Vocal Performance program at Wichita State University. Lucia was also very involved with LifeChurch Owasso and LifeChurch West Wichita and was a dedicated member of several prayer teams. True to her name, she was a light to everyone she met and was very empathetic and compassionate towards others.
Lucia is survived by her dearly loved husband, Chris; her parents, Stephen and Shelley; her sisters, Lydia, Leah, and Laura Gray; her mother-in-law, Susan McFarland; her brother-in-law, Jon McFarland and his wife, Megan McFarland; her sister-in-law, Amanda McFarland; her aunt and uncle, Leslie Wylie and Wynne Sellers; her uncle and aunt, Kevin and Donna Wylie; her uncle and aunt, Dr. Bill and Sue Gray; her aunt, Kathy Petty; many beloved cousins and their spouses and children; her precious friends; and her beloved cat, Oliver.
A Celebration of Life service will be held for Lucia on August 5, 2023, at 10 a.m., at Abiding Harvest Church in Broken Arrow. Please wear a light or colorful outfit if you attend in honor of Lucia's love for fashion and God's beautiful creation. There will also be a livestream for those who cannot attend. Donations in Lucia's name may be made to Voice of the Martyrs and Tulsa Dream Center, two of Lucia's favorite charities.
