Laurence Nagy Obituary

Laurence "Larry" David Nagy

Laurence "Larry" David Nagy, 84, formerly of French Island, passed away on Wednesday October 18, 2023 at Tomah Nursing and Rehab in Tomah, Wisconsin.

He was born on April 2, 1939, to Rudolph Charles and Mildred Vosmek in Upper Montclair, New Jersey. He was a member of the New Jersey Army National Guard and spoke often of his service with the National Guard and Army Reserve. Larry also spoke of working for a company that installed computers at the Pentagon.

Larry attended RCA technical college and obtained his engineering degree. He applied for a job at a radio station in Bucyrus, Ohio and once there he met his future wife while grocery shopping one day. He married Nancy Lou Wilson on June 7, 1964, and they spent the first years of marriage making a home in Bucyrus. Two years later, they welcomed a son, Wayne.

Nancy and Larry moved to French Island in 1968 for Larry to pursue a career in engineering at WKBT – TV. Their second son Michael "Mike" was born shortly after they settled into their new home. Larry and Nancy lived in their home for 54 years before health reasons brought about their move to assisted care.

Larry loved to work with all things electrical and their home was first on the block to have a microwave which Larry built himself from a kit.

Larry and Nancy were known for their Christmas decorations with lights being added annually.

Larry worked at WKBT –TV until he retired in 2000. He enjoyed his retirement by spending time at home with his wife gardening and taking care of their extensive flower beds. Larry enjoyed the outdoors through hunting and the La Crosse Skyrockers.

Survivors include children, Wayne (Alicia) Nagy of Onalaska, Wisconsin and Michael (Jennifer) Nagy of LaCrosse, Wisconsin; 3 grandchildren Cody Nagy of Holmen, Wisconsin; Connor Nagy of Minneapolis, Minnesota and Carson Nagy of LaCrosse, Wisconsin.

He was preceded in death by his wife Nancy (Wilson) Nagy; father Rudolph Charles Nagy and his mother Mildred Vosmek.

A joint memorial service for he and his wife Nancy, who passed away October 15, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday October 21, 2023 at the Seland Funeral Home in Coon Valley. A visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until service time. Private burial will be held at a later date. The family wishes to thank the staff at Tomah Nursing and Rehabilitation and St. Croix Hospice for their compassionate care of Larry.
