Doris Jean Bigelow Gulatsi

Doris Jean Bigelow Gulatsi, 98, of Fredericksburg passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 16, 2023. She was born on April 10, 1925 in Port Henry, New York. Doris was the only child of George and Maude Bigelow. She was raised in Wadhams, New York and graduated from Mildred Elley College in Albany where she received her nursing degree.

Upon graduating college, Doris began her practical nursing career. While working she met her husband, Richard, who asked her out after helping her up when she tripped. Richard and Doris married and settled in Devon, Pennsylvania where they raised their three children. Doris and Richard retired and settled in Fredericksburg in 1996. Doris was an active member of Fredericksburg Presbyterian Church and the Faith and Friendship Circle. She was also a lifetime member of the Mary Washington Hospital Auxillary. Doris was a devoted Christian and loved her family greatly. She had many hobbies including sewing and was an avid scrabble player. She loved her sherry and her M&M's. Her quick-wit, loving spirit, and her humor will be missed dearly.

Survivors include her daughter, Carol Paiva; daughter-in-law Beth Gulatsi; her seven grandchildren who knew her as Mudder, Michael, Jeffrey, Chris (Nyanna), Julie (Aric), John (Jessica), Rick (Madison), and Robert (Taylor); and eleven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband of 59 years, Richard Gulatsi; eldest daughter Jean Snow and her husband, Robert Snow; youngest child and son, John M. Gulatsi.

A private service will be held in Quantico National Cemetery.
