Richard William Von Rock

Richard William Von Rock, known to all as "Rick," longtime resident of Kelso, passed away peacefully on July 26, 2025 at the age of 81. Born on July 18, 1944, in New York, New York, he was the fifth of the six children of Dorothy and Morris Von Roch.

Rick is predeceased by his parents and his siblings Robert, Harold, James and Barbara. He is survived by his sister, Joyce Grimes.

Rick worked for 43 years at LongFibre in Longview, where he was a proud and active member of the AWPPW (Association of Western Pulp and Paper Workers). He served as a dedicated union leader and advocate for workers' rights, leaving a lasting impact on the lives of many colleagues.

In retirement, Rick remained active in civic life in Kelso and continued to support labor causes. He was happiest when working in his garden, discussing politics, getting in his long daily walks, and cheering on his favorite teams, the Seahawks, Blazers, and Mariners. He deeply loved his family and frequently traveled to San Francisco to spend time with his adored daughters and grandchildren.

He is survived by his daughter Deidre Von Rock, her husband Rahul Nair and her sons Luca and Nicolo; his son Daniel Von Rock and his wife Jessica, his daughter Hallie Von Rock and her son Aidan. He also leaves behind his loving partner, Sue, with whom he shared many wonderful years.

Rick will be remembered for his deep commitment to family, his strong principles, and his unwavering dedication to the community.
