Richard Bond Obituary

Richard Allen Bond

December 21, 1952 - July 11, 2025

It is with full hearts and cherished memories that we say goodbye to Richard Allen Bond, a man whose quiet humor, unwavering kindness, and unforgettable presence left a lasting impression on everyone he met.

Born on December 21, 1952, in Omaha, Nebraska, and raised in Carter Lake, Iowa, Richard was a proud product of a close-knit community that helped shape his boundless love for people and place. He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School, where he was a standout athlete excelling in football, wrestling, and track. His fierce determination and natural talent led him to Doane College, where he continued to break records and make memories as a proud competitor and teammate.

A lifelong lover of sports, Richard had a particular passion for Nebraska Cornhusker football including his famous watch parties with raffles and prizes. Yet, his true love was found in the quiet simplicity of a fishing line cast into still water. There, with rod in hand and his brothers at his side, he was at peace.

Professionally, Richard dedicated much of his life to Little Debbie snack cakes, where he worked as both a distributor and district manager. His hard work, paired with his magnetic personality, made him a favorite among coworkers and customers alike. Few people could match his ability to connect with others whether sharing a laugh, a story, or a snack, he had a way of turning strangers into friends with ease.

He had a slow, deliberate way of doing things (especially eating) which became one of his many lovable quirks. A lefty through and through, Richard was funny without trying, endlessly curious, and genuinely interested in the people around him. His love of music spanned all genres, and his playlists were as varied and lively as his conversations.

In 1981, he married Libby Bond and began the most meaningful journey of his life, fatherhood. He became a loving stepfather to Candy Lueders and a devoted father to Jessica and Tony. His children were his pride and joy, and he poured his heart into raising them with strength, humor, and compassion.

He is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Leonard and Bette Bond, and now joins them in peace. He is survived by his siblings: Jim Bond, Tim Bond, Tom Bond, Mike Bond, and Nancy Bond. He is also survived by his children: Candy (Jon) Lueders, Jessica (Ryan) Dold, and Tony Bond; his adored grandchildren: Dominic, Beckett, Brayden, and Emmett; and a wide circle of family, and friends.

To know Richard was to love him. He was warm, generous, and just a little stubbornin the best possible way. His stories, laughter, and quiet wisdom will echo in our hearts forever.

A Celebration of Life will be held on August 16 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Carter Lake Improvement Club, located at 4328 N. 9th Street, Carter Lake, IA 51510.

I had the privilege of being a classmate of Rich Bond's both for a year at Woodrow Wilson and through high school at Thomas Jefferson. Rich was a super athlete, very unassuming, and just a super nice and genuine person. As seniors, I had the opportunity of really getting to know Rich up close and personal as I provided numerous rides home to the Bonderosa after he sustained a knee injury in football. After school, our lives went in different directions but years later I was able to keep informed of his life thru brothers Tom and Mike. Rich, may you rest in peace.

I remember Rich most from our days as classmates at Carter Lake Elementary. He was a kind and thoughtful kid that everyone liked. My condolences to his family.

I grew up in Carter Lake and a neighbor to the Bond family for many years. The whole family were super. His dad and brothers were great football coaches in Omaha. Richie was a fabulous wrestler. Had many good times swimming in the lake and playing baseball with his older brother. RIP good friend.

I knew Bondo from Doane and also continued our friendship when I moved to Omaha. He was a one of a kind person and friend. I lost touch with him through the years of which I am sad. RIP Bondo
