Gary Gettings

1949 - 2026

Gary Haywood Gettings A/K/A "G-Boy" was born on October 11, 1949 in Brownsville Texas. He moved as a baby to Tulsa Oklahoma. He graduated from Rogers High School in 1968. He attended OSU for two years joining the Sig Ep fraternity. He came back from college in 1971 and quickly joined the Tulsa Fire Department. Gary became the youngest captain of his time at TFD (age 24). Gary retired from the Fire Department in 1999 after 28 years of service. During his time at TFD he worked in the construction industry, eventually starting his own business, Gettings Construction. He built many new homes in the South Tulsa area.

G-Boy certainly embraced the "work hard, play hard" philosophy. It didn't matter where he was or who he was with, there was going to be a good time! At any golf course, poker table, happy hour, craps table, pool hall or dinner table Gary was happy to see you and embraced everyone with love and joviality. If he wasn't playing cards or at happy hour, then you could find him towing his boat to one of Oklahoma's lakes or catching a flight to fish the Amazon or some other iconic fishing destination.

His golf clubs were always riding shot gun in the back of his truck just in case someone called for a round of golf. But...come football season everyone knew, "odds were" you would find Gary in front of his TV just "watching football."

In 1980 Gary scored what he considered the biggest Win of his life, the birth of his daughter Megan Elizabeth. Nothing ever came close to that one!

No matter what the circumstances, they were always there for one another.

Gary once said, "I've lived a charmed life." And charming he truly was. His warm heart and loving smile will not be forgotten.

Preceded in death were his parents Bill Gettings (Retired Tulsa Policeman) and Mildred Evelyn Gettings of Tulsa. Survived by: Vicky Gettings (wife), Megan Gettings-Venable (Daughter), Cody Venable (son-in-law) and (sisters) Kathy Sutton and Dee-Dee Woodson.

There is a "Celebration of Life" to honor Gary on Feb 13 from 4:00-6:00 at McNellies on 71 and Yale in Tulsa. All who knew Gary are invited to attend!
