Trudy Scott Obituary

Scott, Trudy A.

Dec 30, 1950 - Feb 2, 2026

Trudy Anastasia Scott, age 75, passed away peacefully on February 2, 2026, at 2:25 a.m. at her home in Bowie, Maryland, surrounded by comfort and love. She battled cancer with positivity, grit, and determination, meeting every challenge with strength, humor, and grace. Born on December 30, 1950, to the late Ernest Carlson and Justice (Caldwell) Carlson, Trudy spent almost the entirety of her life in Buffalo, New York building deep roots in her community and lifelong relationships. In December of 2024, she moved to Maryland to be closer to her grandchildren, a decision that brought her immense joy and purpose. To know Trudy was to feel her warmth, vibrant spirit and endless kindness. She was the heart of her family and the soul of every gathering. A gracious and joyful host, Trudy took pride in bringing her loved ones together. Her home was the hub for every holiday and every Bills game, filled with laughter, unforgettable meals (most notably, her signature gumbo), and cherished memories that will live on in the hearts of all who gathered there. Trudy was the life of the party. Her laughter was contagious, her generosity boundless, and her presence unforgettable. She was an infinitely positive person and anyone that met her could feel that! Trudy had a lifelong love of music and dance. In her younger years, she enjoyed ice skating and Funga African dance, and later in life, she discovered a love for Zumba. Music was always close to her heart. She loved singing along to artists like Bruno Mars, Pitbull, and Rihanna, though her all time favorite song was "As" by Stevie Wonder. She also had a keen eye for design, whether it was fashion, interior design, or her garden; each served as a vibrant canvas reflecting her playful spirit and joy. Trudy was educated at St. Francis de Sales for grammar school and Nardin Academy for high school. Then, during her freshman year at Niagara University, she met the love of her life, Hugh B. Scott, Sr.. The two were married on June 9, 1973, beginning a devoted partnership centered on family and love. Hugh B. Scott, Sr. preceded her in death on February 19, 2021. Professionally, Trudy dedicated 35 years to Allstate as a Claims Management Executive, where she was admired for her leadership, integrity, and commitment-all principles by which she lived. Above all, she achieved this distinguished career while ensuring her family remained her greatest priority and proudest achievement. In retirement, Trudy enjoyed volunteering at the Charter School of Inquiry in Buffalo, helping children learn to read. She also enjoyed the outdoors and spent her time gardening, ponding, traveling, and spoiling her dog, Ted! Even in her final days, Trudy's spirit never wavered. She remained brave, patient, and funny, showing remarkable resilience and mental strength in the ICU. She joked that she was happy to see everyone "until they brought the shots," and, with her signature humor and hope, asked if anyone had a magic wand. Trudy is survived by her sons, Hugh B. Scott, Jr. (born November 20, 1977) and Everett N. Scott, Sr. (born December 17, 1981); her beloved grandchildren, Everett N. Scott, Jr. (March 8, 2019), Booker H. Scott (July 22, 2021), Blair E. Scott (January 23, 2023), and Kaiya K. Scott (April 13, 2025); and her two younger brothers, Leif Carlson and Mark Carlson; as well as a host of extended family and dear friends. The family will receive friends Saturday February 21, 2026 10;00am - 12noon at St. John Baptist Church 184 Goodell Street, Buffalo, New York, where a Celebration of Life will immediately follow. Final arrangements entrusted to THOMAS T. EDWARDS FUNERAL HOME, INC. Please share condolences online at www.thomastedwardsfuneralhome.com.

Dear Hugh and Everett - I´m so sad to learn of your mother´s illness and passing. She and your father were always proud of the two of you, I recall your father telling me about your careers in DC and Cali, your cars, your lives. I´m sure your memories of both of them will forever be a blessing.

My sincere condolences and sympathy to the family. Trudy & I were not in contact during our later years, but we played together as members of The Playmates when we were young; our mothers were good friends. We then had the time of our lives when we traveled by bus together to St. Olaf College in MN for a National HI-Y Assembly. A fun & wonderful memory that will never be forgotten. Rest peacefully...
