COHOES - John E. "Jack" DeMers, 100, passed away peacefully, Saturday, April 4, 2026, at Samaritan Hospital.
He was the husband of Sheila (O'Day – Bouchard) DeMers, and the late Jeanne M. (Turcotte) DeMers, who died of cancer in 1989. Jack's parents were the late Stanislaus and Edith (Forget) DeMers of Cohoes and Stillwater. Jack was born January 4, 1926, and was the youngest and last surviving of their seven children.
Jack lived most of his life in Cohoes. He was a veteran of WW II having served 21 months in the U.S. Army Transportation Corps during 1944 and 1945. After his military service, he attended the Veterans Vocational School, in Troy, under the GI Bill and graduated in Machine Tool Operation. He obtained employment with the General Electric Co. operated Knolls Atomic Powers Lab, in Niskayuna, and worked there in various positions for 37 years, before retiring in 1988. Jack was a lifetime communicant of the Holy Trinity Parish, in Cohoes.
In addition to his parents, siblings, and first wife, Jack was predeceased by his son, John "Tony" DeMers, who passed in 2019.
Jack is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Sheila; by his daughter, Judge Marie Greener (Harold) of Lamoine, Maine; his son's longtime companion, Kathe Quinn of Troy; his grandson, Logan (Meghan) Quinn DeMers of Melrose; his great-grandchildren, Thea and Oliver DeMers; his stepsons, Brian (Jane) Bouchard of Schroon Lake, Michael (Linda) Bouchard of Schroon Lake, James (Maureen) Bouchard and Kenneth (Michelle) Bouchard of Cohoes; and by his step-grandchildren, Julia Bouchard of Schroon Lake, Lindsey (Alex) LeBuis, Boston, Slater and Mackenzie Bouchard all of Cohoes; and his step-great-grandson, Bentley. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and their families.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, April 9, 2026, at 1:30 p.m., in the Church of the Holy Trinity, 122 Vliet Blvd., Cohoes. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Waterford.
At Jack's request, there will be no calling hours.
