John Lefeber

John Harold Lefeber, born in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, to Elmer and Margaret Lawrence Lefeber, passed away on July 19, 2025, in Morganton, North Carolina, after a period of declining health.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-mother, Beatrice Lefeber; his sister, Linda Lefeber; and bothers, Roger, Michael, Morman Lefeber; as well as his brother-in-law, Herman Buechel; and son-in-law Thomas Wallace, Jr.

John is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, June Bullman Lefeber, of the home. He is also survived by his daughter, Michele Wallace of Raleigh, and her children Thomas Wallace, Ryan (Bethany) Wallace, Kathryn Wallace and Brendan Wallace. He leaves behind his daughter Lynn (Charles) Abernathy and her children: John Robert Abernathy and William Abernathy. He is also survived by daughter, Pam Cain and fiancée Stan Harbaugh. Also surviving are siblings, Janet Buechel of Fond du Lac, Wis., George Lefeber of Waupun, Wis., David (special friend, Mary Lopno) Lefeber of Fond du Lac, Wis., Ellie (Raymond) Hartman of Plymouth, Wis., Joan (John) Wessing of Lomira, Wis., Jackie (Tom) Konkol of Spicer, Minn., and Kathy Lefeber of Fond du Lac: and sister-in-law Janet Lefeber of Oshkosh, Wis., one Aunt, Carol Dowd of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and a number of nieces and nephews.

John enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the age of 18, with a desire to see the world. He proudly served for 21 years before retiring from military service. John went on to earn a degree in management from Gardner-Webb University and had a successful post-military career in management at several Hardee's locations across Burke County. After retiring from Hardee's, he continued working part-time with H&R Block. A man of strong faith, john was a longtime member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church where he worshiped for over 40 years. He was also a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus, where he held multiple leadership roles, including Financial Secretary and Grand Knight. John was a lifelong learner who found joy in crossword puzzles, game shows, and cheering on all Wisconsin Sports teams. He was forever on the hunt for the perfect slice of pie. Above all, John's greatest joy came from his grandchildren, who were the light of his life. He took great pride in attending their games and activities and sharing in their accomplishments.

A Mass will be held at 11 a.m., Monday July 28, 2025, in the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church with Father Ken Whitting officiating. Interment will follow at 2 p.m., with Military Honors by the U.S. Navy in the Western N.C. State Veterans Cemetery, Black Mountain.
