On Wednesday evening, September 10, after a short and fierce battle with cancer, Donna left this earth and is now looking down and blessing us as she dances among the stars.
Donna was born in Titusville, Florida and spent her childhood and teen years in Orange County, California. In the early 1980's Donna fled Orange County to San Francisco where she lived until her death.
Donna was a renaissance woman. She made metal art and jewelry, sewed, crocheted and knitted, was an avid gardener, cook, and baker. She also made tinctures and herbal mixes to lift the spirit. There was magic in this gal. In the 80s and early 90s, Donna was active in the SF Gay and Lesbian Pool League and was asked to serve as its President. Donna took the helm when so many of its members were dying of AIDS.
Donna most enjoyed hanging out with her many friends and family. She was the super proud mom of Joshua, a Lowell and Cal Poly graduate who works for the City of Berkeley. She and her wife Nancy shared a wonderful life together for more than 35 years. They communicated even without words and just complimented each other. In addition to San Francisco, Donna and Nancy enjoyed visiting Palm Springs. Donna would float in the pool and always comment on just how beautiful the mountains were.
Donna was whip smart, could talk on topics from politics to drag and had an amazing memory. She was a good friend who would listen, share her opinion and provide advice.
She had eclectic musical tastes and she and Joshua attended Bonnaroo and the family attended Outside Lands and many concerts, plays, sporting events, and drag shows. Donna was a Valkyries season ticket holder and although her cancer kept her home from Ballhalla, she watched the team on TV and cheered them loudly from home.
On the career side of life, Donna was a highly skilled and knowledgeable litigation secretary who enjoyed a 40 plus year career working for large and small San Francisco law firms. She shared her knowledge and mentored other professional staff. Donna most recently worked at Saber Law Group" from which she recently retired.
Throughout her career Donna made lifelong friends.
Donna is survived by her heart-broken wife, Nancy, son Joshua, father Dan, siblings Chris, Dan, Jon and Mariana, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and many, many loving friends. She was very excited to have recently welcomed a great-nephew.
Donna left us way too soon, period. A Celebration of Life is being planned for the near future.
