Nancy Treadway Obituary

Ledyard - Nancy Louise Watrous Treadway of Ledyard, passed away Dec. 22, 2024. She is finally able to rest-in-peace after struggling through two decades of a relentless barrage of illnesses, medical procedures and partial recoveries. Our boundless gratitude to Dr. Peter Gates; all the people at Bride Brook Rehabilitation and Nursing, and Affinity Hospice for providing exceptional care and compassion.

Born Oct. 3, 1946, she was the daughter of the late Scott and Leona Watrous of Noank. She graduated from Fitch High School, Groton, 1964, and from Three Rivers College (A.S. Magna Cum Laude), 2008; and was a member of Phi Theta Kappa.

Nancy was a more than a fifty-year member of Noank Baptist Church; and served several terms as member of counsel. She was also an over 25-year member of D.A.R., and a day-or-night-available Notary Public.

She had a diverse career beginning with the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission, office of Admiral Rickover; then, as a self-employed seamstress; and with New England Savings Bank; Norwich Savings Society; Department of Corrections Human Resources; Pfizer Inc. Human Resources; and eventually the Mystic Aquarium Chief-of-Staff up until her retirement.

Nancy is survived by her husband Lee Treadway; two sons, Scott Davis and wife Barbara (Smith) Davis and their sons, Tyler and Scotty; and Chris Davis and wife Kristen (Pettazzoni) Davis and their children: Kaleigh, Addison, Piper, Sawyer and Maddison and Mia Attardi. Nancy and her loyal cat "Samantha" were mutually enchanted for nineteen years.

Nancy was a naturally talented and vivacious caregiver with a generous spirit performing all of her duties and assignments with smarts, grit, determination and humor while attracting many friendships and informal extensions of family, even while annoying some in the pursuit of an important task. Her greatest joys beyond raising her sons, inspiring and caring for family and friends were in traveling and searching for exceptional gifts or craft materials, and connecting with said family and friends. Creating practical works of art with those special materials engaged her boundless love while thinking about the person who would eventually receive each gift. She would routinely modify a design or change materials during that creative process, even if the recipient would eventually be a homeless person she had never met, a mariner connected with the International Seamen's Church, or a receiver of the many gifts donated to the Noank Baptist Church holiday Bazaars. In addition to the numerous needle point pillows, wall hangings, quilts, and a vast array of knitted hats, scarves, mittens, socks, sweaters and baby blankets, Nancy designed and created wedding gowns and attendants' dresses for the lucky brides who collaborated in the process.

A celebration of Nancy's life will be held at a later date and will be announced in a future edition.

My deepest condolences to Nancy's family. I will miss her dry wit and her matter of fact way of sharing news or a bit of harmless gossip. She was just a delightful person and one of the smartest people I know. Our connection went way back. Our mothers were classmates all through Noank School and our families reach far back into Noank's history. Nancy will be dearly missed.

Dear Lee & family - I am so sorry to read of Nancy's passing. We were classmates at Noank School, Fitch Jr. High & Noank neighbors. In the late 1960's I rode to Mystic with Nancy & her mom (I was working at an Insurance Company) & Nancy & Mrs. Watrous were working at the Seaport. Nancy is now at peace and pain free. May she rest in peace. Always, Irene & Russ McDonough
