Thomas Gaul Obituary

Harlingen, Texas - On April 29, 2025, wrapped in the love and care of his family, Thomas William Gaul passed away peacefully and painlessly at the age of 75 due to complications from vascular surgery in Houston, Texas. He is survived by Kathleen, his cherished wife of almost 50 years. Together, they built a life filled with laughter and love that spanned time zones, states, and decades, as well as the birth of his children Meghan, Colin, & Brian and grandchildren Caleb & Aisley, who were his biggest pride and greatest joy.

A passionate and creative soul, Tom lived a life full of adventure and zest from the moment he was welcomed into this world by his parents, Jack and Margo. The sweet boy with the mischievous grin was the subject of many local legends, along with his older brother, Jack, and younger sister, Sue. His adventures took him to Vietnam, where he served his country as a soldier in the U.S. Army. He was awarded the Bronze Star as well as the Army Commendation Medal with V device for heroism and returned as a proud veteran. He was a journeyman pipefitter and spent his career in supervisory roles across various manufacturing industries and nurtured a passion for painting, rough-and-tumble hockey, the Buffalo Bills, and good times with great friends.

Those who knew him would tell you Tom loved singing off-key to Bob Dylan, regaling his family, friends, and even strangers with tales of his travels and days spent fishing on the Arroyo. He also enjoyed practicing fine woodworking in his workshop, telling jokes that would make you laugh to the point of tears, and savoring a glass of good red wine with a well-grilled steak. He was the first person you called when you needed a storyteller's humor, a handyman's knowledge, a father's wisdom, or all three. His bright and indelible spirit was felt by all who knew him and will live on in their hearts and memories.

A memorial mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 17, 2025 at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Harlingen followed by a Celebration of Life to honor Tom's memory at the Harlingen Country Club at 11:30 a.m.

His family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made in his name to The Wounded Warrior Project.
