Alton Ray Robertson

1934 - 2018

Alton Ray Robertson, 83, died in his home Sunday, Sept. 9, 2018, surrounded by family members and loved ones. He was born Dec. 1, 1934, in Cary, Mississippi, to Albert and Lessie (French) Robertson.
Alton graduated from Cary High School in Cary, Mississippi, in 1951. He lived in Rolling Fork, Mississippi until 1964 when he moved to Malvern. Alton proudly served in the U.S. Army and Mississippi Reserves. He later moved to Benton in 1979. Alton joined the First Baptist Church of Benton in 1979. He was a faithful member of the adult choir until 2015. Alton loved spending his days at the Benton Senior Wellness and Activity Center and Amberwood Nursing and Rehabilitation in Benton and was a diehard Razorbacks fan.
Alton was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Lessie (French) Robertson; two brothers, Jerry Robertson and W.T. Robertson; a sister, Shirley Theall; and a grandson, Kevin Nichols.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Jannetje Robertson, of Benton; a daughter, Vanessa Bradley and husband, Gerald, of Texarkana, Arkansas; a son, Alton Robertson Jr., of Hot Springs; two daughters, Britney Smith and husband, Todd, of Benton, and Donjere Ankney and husband, Jesse, of Benton; a son, Paul Robertson and wife, Lindsey, of Benton; 15 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Tim Robertson, of Batesville, Mississippi; a sister, Janette Garner, of Greeneville, Mississippi; a number nieces and nephews; and many other family members and friends who loved Alton and will miss him always.
A reception visitation will be held from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13, at Smith-Benton Funeral Home.
A memorial service, officiated by Bro. Clay Cunningham, will follow at 1 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Music Ministry at First Baptist Church of Benton.
