Edith Taylor Obituary

With heavy hearts we say goodbye to our loving mother and Nanny, Edith Anne Taylor (Warness), who passed away peacefully on June 18, 2009 at TBRHSC. Edith was born September 14, 1925 in Port Arthur, Ontario. She was the only daughter of Nicholas and Bertha Warness. After attending local schools, she entered PAGH School of Nursing in 1943. Due to illness, she had to leave her chosen career but found success in the Medical Records Department of the hospital. She later worked for many years as Administrative Secretary to Dr. W. A. Hargan and Dr. J.F. Kotalik at the Thunder Bay Cancer Centre. She married Lorne Hartley Taylor in 1947. They enjoyed many years of country living at Surprise Lake. Edith is survived by her son Lorne Thomas (Cheryl), grandchildren Rebecca DeDura (Chris), Ryan (Tammy), Matthew (Jamie), great grandchildren Leif Thomas and Annika Lynn DeDura and Easton Lorne Taylor; nieces and nephews, sister-in-law Doreen Taylor and special cousins and many friends. Predeceased by husband Lorne, parents Nicholas and Bertha, special brother Ernest and grandparents. Edith loved music and was a church organist and pianist for many years. She appreciated her Scandinavian heritage and the Norwegian Canadian Association where for many years she played for the Julefest and 17th of May celebrations. A member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church all her life, she taught Sunday school, directed and sang in choirs and was a life member of the Lutheran Church Women. She promoted the work of Canadian Lutheran World Relief by organizing school kits for children. She was also a member of Lappe Lutheran Church, Ladies Auxiliary Branch #5 Royal Canadian Legion, a former member of the Surprise Lake Campers' Association, the Golden Girls of Surprise Lake and a former member of the Interlink Choir. Her home, family and friends were most important to her. She loved singing, reading, Bible Study and being with family and friends. She treasured them as gifts from God. Respecting her wishes cremation has taken place. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday June 23, 2009 at 1:00 pm at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, with Rev. Matthew Diegel officiating.
