Lottie Swafford Obituary
Lottie (Fields) Swafford, 96, of Crossville, passed away April 24, 2009. Funeral services were held April 27 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, followed by burial in Hamilton Cemetery in Bledsoe County.
Mrs. Swafford was born Feb. 17, 1913, in Cumberland County, the daughter of Elmer Fields and Minnie Medora (Beyer) Fields.
She was a homemaker and an avid gardner, herbalist and wild flower enthusiast and a member of Main Street Church of Christ. She retired as a sales person at Hills Department Store.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, John Emert and Sue Swafford Jr. of Hixson; daughters and sons-in-law, Margie and Paul Smith of Huntsville, AL, and Jane and James Mills of Pikeville; sister, Lennis Masters of Crossville; caregiver, Frances Christian; grandchildren, John Paul Smith, Jim Mills, Bryant Swafford and Jill Hawn; and great-grandchildren, Jared Emert Smith, Grant Smith, Blake Smith, Timothy Hawn, Thomas Hawn, Savanah Mills and Kaylee Mills.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Emert Swafford Sr.; brothers, Lee Fields and Litton Fields; and sisters, Lucy Cline, Lola Richards and Lillian Brewer.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Cumberland County.
Bilbrey Funeral Home, Inc. (www.bilbreyfh.com) was in charge of the arrangements.

Lottie Swafford was my grandmother. My fondest memories of her, were the times that I went to spend time with her and Papa on weekends and druing the summer and she would take me up into the mountains and we would gather wildflowers and she would give me lessons on the varieties and how to plant them. She is the one person that gave me my love of nature and the outdoors. I will trully miss her.
