NEWPORT NEWS - Dorothy Palmer 'Dot' Trenholm, 95, a native and lifetime resident of Newport News, died Jan. 25, 2009.
Dot was born May 3, 1913, to the late Frederick J. and Florence J. Palmer of Newport News. Her fraternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John J. Palmer, came to Newport News in 1892 from City Point, Va., and established JJ Palmers Jewelry Co. Her maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. James B. Jennings moved to Newport News in 1880 from West Point, Va. Mr. Jennings established numerous enterprises and was a Founding Director of the Citizen Marine Jefferson Bank (now Sun Trust).
Mrs. Trenholm was a graduate of Newport News High School. In addition to being a homemaker, Dot worked full and part time throughout her life as a bookkeeper and office manager for a number of local firms, to include her husband's company, Trenholm Fuels, Inc. She was a past member of the Hampton Yacht Club, the James River Country Club and the Warwick Yacht Club.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, David B. Trenholm; and two brothers, James J. Palmer and Frederick J. Palmer Jr.
She is survived by one son, David J. Trenholm and his wife, Jo of Newport News; one granddaughter, Ashley T. Kreth and her husband, Kyle; and three great-granddaughters, Kaitlyn, Mallory and Rachel Kreth of Charlotte, N.C.
The family would like to express its sincere thanks to the staff at The James River Convalescent Center for their kind and excellent care during the last eight years.
A private burial service will be conducted with internment in Greenlawn Cemetery.
