Jay Patton Obituary

Jay Dee Patton Jr. COLUMBIA - Jay Dee Patton Jr., 74, passed away quietly on Saturday, Nov. 30, 2013, after a long illness. A memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2013, at Shandon Presbyterian Church, Columbia, S.C., with a reception following the service at the church. He was born in Richmond, Va., the son of the late Jay Dee Patton Sr. and Florence "Billie" Boward Patton. He graduated from Douglas S. Freeman High School in Richmond and received a BA from Virginia Military Institute, Class of 1962. Upon graduating, he entered the U.S. Air Force. After completing active duty, he continued service with the North Carolina Air National Guard as an intelligence officer, training pilots and air crew in survival techniques. He retired as a Lt. Colonel. Jay is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Ada Wyman Patton; his son, Craig Matthew Patton (Natalie) of Fredericksburg, Va., and daughter, Sarah Patton Floyd (Tom) of Dallas, Texas. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Eden Elisabeth Patton, John Rhys Floyd and Georgia Allerton Floyd. Jay was a man of the utmost honor and integrity, always a man of his word. He had a keen wit and never lost his sense of hope. He loved the outdoors and backpacking with his son and playing tennis with his daughter. A real officer and a gentleman. RIP Lt Col Patton. I still smile when I think about all the times I helped look for his hat and he would walk around saying "Those damn communists stole my hat." So honored to have known and worked for such a nice man.
