Kevin McGinnis Obituary

Corporal Kevin Patrick McGinnis
1993-2016
Corporal Kevin Patrick McGinnis, United States Marine Corps, passed away unexpectedly on July 31, 2016 in Torrance, California.
Kevin was born September 23, 1993 in Houston, Texas. He was the third child, and the first son, of Joe and Michelle McGinnis.
Kevin is preceded in death by his grandparents, Bob and Pat McGinnis, Brad and Carolyn Pitney, and uncles Mike McGinnis and James Young.
Kevin is survived by his parents, his younger brother, David; his sister, Kelly; his sister Megan Wilson, brother in law Juston Wilson, nephew Rodeo, and nieces Kylie and Ayla. Aunts and Uncles - John and Becky McGinnis, daughters Kara and Kathryn; Bill and Lori McGinnis, sons Will and Mike; Rusty and Cathy Hicks, daughters, Sara, fiancé Michael McCarthy, Jena, husband Kyle Cordell and son Jake, and Jessica; Jim and Terri McGinnis, daughter Ryan, husband Jeff Andrews and daughter Jade; Beth Young, sons Russell and wife Katie, Robert and wife Stephanie, Sean, and Marshall; Tom and Stephanie McGinnis, sons Kendall and Matt; Shelley McGinnis and Debbie Newman, their daughter Rowen; Scott and LaVonne Pitney, and their childrenTyler, Zachary and Gage Pitney, and Lauren and Maddie Zutz; Great-aunts, Marge Fulton and Barbara McGinnis.
Kevin grew up in Sugar Land, Texas. He was a member of St. Laurence Catholic Parish, attending St. Laurence Catholic School and Clements High School. Upon graduation in 2012, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, and was currently stationed at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in California. During his tenure in the Marines, he spent time in California, Florida, Mississippi, and Japan.
Kevin's passions were his love for his family, friends and his Marine brothers and sisters. He enjoyed swimming as a youngster and swam for the First Colony Gators (14 years) and the Clements High School swim team. As he got older, he liked spending time working out, practicing the martial art Krav Maga, watching movies, playing video games, posting Wildlife Wednesday photos, and anything else that involved being with friends or family. He valued his strong relationship with God, and was quick to lend a hand, lend an ear or a shoulder to cry on. His greatest desire was to lighten other's loads, doing whatever he could to ease their burdens … and enjoy a good laugh and something to eat or drink afterwards.
Tuesday, August 9, 2016, a rosary will be said at St. Laurence Catholic Church, 3100 Sweetwater Blvd, Sugar Land, Texas, at 8:45 am, with a funeral mass at 9:30 AM, followed by a committal service with honors at Houston National Cemetery, with a reception to follow at St. Laurence Parish Hall. His family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to all his Marine brothers and sisters, his friends and his family who helped mold Kevin into the fine man he was – he loved dearly and was loved dearly. God bless and Semper Fidelis Kevin – you will be deeply missed.

A MARINE COMES HOME...

Few, earn the Title "United States Marine"...
Once earned, They are a Marine Forever...

When they die, their Honor Clean, they appear before Heavens Gates and see two signs, Eternal Peace and Marines...

Below the sign Marines is a path...
The Marine follows the path to a Quonset Hut, knocks three Times and enters...

Behind a table stand two Marines, Colonel Lewis B. Puller and Sergeant Major Dan Daly...
The SgtMaj. hands the Marine a Quill Pen and Bottle of Red Black Ink...

The Marine signs His Name to the Duty Roster, after which His Heavenly Robes Fade, replaced by Standard Marine Corps issue...

Kevin Smiles, and does a Right Face out The Hatch to the Yellow Footprints to Muster as The USMC Devil Dog Division...

Kevin's purpose is clear, to fight the Forces of Evil for all eternity, under the command of the Ultimate Commander-In-Chief, GOD ALMIGHTY...

"By the Grace Of God,
And a few Marines,
It's Good To Be Home"...

I want to express my deepest condolences for the McGinnis family's great loss. I only knew Kevin for a year or two but his presence in my life changed it forever. He was the one Marine I knew who never told me to give up on my dreams and would always pick me back up when I had fallen down. He was a central part of our Marine family and we will never be quite the same without him. I want to thank you for lending him to us in the capavity that you did and allowing us to know him and call him family. If there is anything we can ever do for any of you, do not hesitate to call any of us. We love Kevin as our family, and so you are all our family now too. Rest in Peace Kevin, Wednesdays will never be the same without you.

I love you Kevin. I even forgive you for that one time when you were about 2 y/o and you found some lipstick and rubbed it all into the carpet in my bedroom. I'd give you all my lipstick and all my floors if it meant you could be back here with us. But listen, Mimi may not feel the same up there in heaven, so just leave her lipstick alone. ;) Thinking of you always.

We would like to extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Corporal Kevin P. McGinnis. Although we've never met Cpl McGinnis, he was one of our own. And to lose someone so unexpectedly is heart-breaking. Rest easy brother and take charge of your new post, guarding the streets on heaven's scenes. Semper Fidelis!
