Olson, 42, of Ontario, CA died March 4, 2006 at San Antonio Hospital in Ontario. Born April 25, 1963 in Hillsboro, Oregon, she was an Ontario resident for 2 and one-half years. Elaine graduated from Banks High School, Banks, Oregon, received her Bachelor's degree from Pacific University and her Masters from the University of Wisconsin at La Crosse. After graduating, she worked in cardiac rehabilitation in Seattle, WA, then joined the Navy. Elaine served in the Navy for eight years, participating in the first Gulf War (Desert Shield/Storm) aboard an ammunition resupply ship in the Indian Ocean. After leaving the regular Navy, she served in the Navy reserves, attaining the rank of Cammander. While in the reserves, Elaine began working for Toyota Motors, first in Portland, OR, then Torrance and Ontario, Calif. as a Safety and Environmental Leader. She loved to hike and bicycle and enjoyed sailing, owning her own 36' sloop , the Dromma. Elaine also traveled extensively in the U.S. , Europe, Asia and the Middle East. While in Seattle, she biked from Seattle to Atlantic City, NJ with a group of 300 bicyclers as a fund raiser for the American Lung Association. She was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church. Elaine is survived by her parents, Bryon R. and Renee C. Olson; brothers, Ronald L., Steven R., James R. and Mark W. Olson. There will be a U.S. Navy burial at sea. Lt Olson was my 1st Division officer when I reported aboard the U.S.S. Nitro. She was a fine person of excellent character. To hear of hear passing was of great shock to me. My condolences to her friends and family.

I remember a very nice officer that stayed within the specs. She looked out for her people. She was always firm, fair and impartial, I'm just sorry that she never knew how much I loved her as a friend, (she showed and old sailor new ways to deal with people)
