Douglas Cook Obituary

June 26, 1959 - July 19, 2015 Douglas S. Cook died suddenly in Malibu on July 19th. He was 56 years old. A graduate of Phillips Exeter Academy, and Harvard University, he grew up in Boston and moved to California to pursue a career in screenwriting. Doug and Exeter classmate, David Weisberg wrote PAYOFF starring Keith Carradine. This began a 25 year collaboration that yielded such films as THE ROCK, with Sean Connery, DOUBLE JEOPARDY with Ashley Judd and Tommy Lee Jones and the soon to be released CRIMINAL starring Kevin Costner and Ryan Reynolds and directed by Ariel Vromen. Doug Cook was married for 27 years to Justine Jacoby Cook, a former Casting Director and a Production Manager for the Marat Daukayev School of Ballet. Justine passed away in November, 2013. They were long-time residents of Hancock Park and members of the Los Angeles Tennis Club. Doug and Justine owned a farm in Jaffrey, New Hampshire, which became their refuge from the hectic life of Los Angeles. A man with a stinging sense of humor, Doug was a wry observer of the human animal. He had a low regard for saccharine sentimentality, attention seekers and black & white movies. Doug is survived by his son, Mackenzie Cook, daughter, Hannah Cook, his mother Helen Cook, his brothers Brad and Peter Cook (professionally known as Peter Mackenzie), his sister, Heather Cook, his girlfriend Hannah Cox as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
