George E. Bloom
Bloom, George E. (Age 85) Lifetime resident of Los Angeles, passed away on May 25, 2004 of pneumonia and complications from surgery. He was born in Philadelphia, PA, March 30, 1919 to Ethel and Lawrence A. Bloom. They moved to Los Angeles soon after George's birth. He was married for over 60 years to Roz (Katz) Bloom. George attended UCLA. During WWII he served in the U.S. Army and achieved the rank of Major. Upon his return, he worked in various managerial capacities, eventually founding his own building sub-contracting company, The George Paul Co. In later years, he was Vice President at Wolf & Vine Mannequin Co. George was a 40-year member of the Del Rey Yacht Club. He was an avid sailor and participant in the growth of the Club. He served on the DRYC Board of Directors and was an officer and committee chairman for many years. In addition to his wife, Roz, George is survived by his son, Kenneth (Virginia) Bloom of Pilot Mtn., NC; his daughter, Ellen (Larry) Underhill of Los Angeles; his older brother, Morton J. (Frances) Bloom of Playa del Rey; his younger brother, Herbert J. (Betty) Bloom of San Diego; many loving in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. A memorial and celebration of his life will be held at the Del Rey Yacht Club, 13900 West Palawan Way, Marina Del Rey on Sunday, May 30, 2004 at 3:00 p.m. Donations may be made in his name to the charity of your choice.
