Ruth,
I never thanked you for admitting me into the gerontology program at usC, despite what I thought were questionable credentials and a sub-par interview with you. You placed two blank pages in front of me and requested that I write why I was a good candidate for the gero program. I wrote 2 sentences. I liked the idea of pursuing a multidisciplinary degree (I figured you were a biologist and I was applying in sociology--this seemed clever) and wanted to learn about aging from a variety of disciplines. It worked. And I had a long and tremendously satisfying career. I'm so sorry I never thanked you in person. You always seemed busy and I was always too shy. I don't suppose better late than never, but nonetheless...Thank you! David Haber ([email protected]), still contributing to gerontology at age 79.
