Patricia Elizabeth Wiens

Patricia Elizabeth Wiens (nee Leigh) May 14,1932 - January 21, 2018 Patricia was born in Vancouver, BC where she passed away surrounded by her loving family. Predeceased by her parents, Percival and Pearl Leigh, and by her sister Catherine Clark. Patricia graduated in Fine Arts at the University of Manitoba in 1952, during which time she was invited to teach Children's Art at the University. She often said that she took 'like a duck to water' when she discovered pottery. Patricia then taught pottery at Coste House - Calgary Allied Art Center. Patricia's career continued on in Regina, SK throughout the fifties, where she was an assistant to Norah McCullough (Executive Secretary - Saskatchewan Arts Board) as well as a pottery teacher at Eastend, SK, for the Saskatchewan Arts Board and at Regina College - University of Saskatchewan. Patricia served on the Board of the Visiting Committee - National Museums of Canada and on the Art Collection Advisory Board 1972/77 - National Gallery of Canada. Patricia also served on the Canadian Cultural Property Export Review Board - 1988/90 - Government of Canada.

Patricia was a wonderful loving wife and mother. She is survived by her husband of 62 years Clifford Donald Wiens and their six children, Mieka Tomilin (Derek), Robin Poitras (Tim Murphy), Inga Wiens (Cameron McDougall), Susan Wright (Tom), Nathan Wiens (Christa), Lisa McNeil (Robert); twelve grandchildren, Leigh, Arran, Nolan, Kieran, Quinten, Arielle, Twyla, Avry, Sydney, Gabriel, Jeremy and Theodore. Patricia's avid love for life touched many.

Her kind attentiveness and her connection to nature, art and the human spirit were always present. A Celebration of Life will be held on Mother's Day, May 13th, 2018 from 2 to 4 at Kerrisdale Senior's Centre in Vancouver BC.
