Gary Vansickel
Nevada - Gary Lynn Vansickel, 69 of Nevada, died Friday, February 19, 2021, at his home in Nevada.
Gary was born July 21, 1951, in Webster City, Iowa the son of Jess and Mildred (Brown) Vansickel. He lived in Duncombe as a child helping his uncle with his plumbing business and working at the mink plant and farming throughout high school. In 1977 he met Christine Slagle and they moved to Nevada. They were married on April 28, 1978, in Marshalltown.
Gary served on the Nevada Fire Department from 1984 until 2007, retiring as captain. He started Vansickel Plumbing in 1983 and he was still working up until his death. Gary enjoyed fishing, camping and his annual deer hunting trips with his hunting group. He also liked spending summer weekends at Lake Ponderosa near Montezuma. Gary especially loved to spend time with his dog Izzy and his family, especially his grandchildren.
Gary is survived by his wife, Chris of Nevada; his children: Shawn (Missy) Bitters, Stephanie (Jason) Gilbreaith and Westly (Jess) Vansickel; his grandchildren, Damien, Monte, Eli, Kolton, Cierra, Aurora, Monroe, Owen, Aiden and Max; his brother, Roger (Marilyn) Vansickel; his nephews: Jerry (Jackie) Vansickel, Jamie Vansickel and Jason (Jennifer) Vansickel; his great-nieces, Isabella, Chloe and Emma; and his great-nephews, Noah and Lincoln. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A celebration of life will be 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, February 24, at Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home (1418 Fawcett Pkwy) in Nevada. Face coverings and social distancing will be required.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Story County Animal Shelter in Nevada in memory of Gary.
