ALFRED STERN Obituary

STERN--Alfred R. The staff and Board of the Film Society of Lincoln Center are profoundly saddened by the death of Alfred R. Stern, who served as our President, then our Chairman, from 1978-1990. Alfred's contribution was immeasurable. During his tenure, the organization began construction of the Walter Reade Theater, the Film Society's first year-round presence on the Lincoln Center campus. He remained committed and involved throughout the years and he will be deeply missed by us all. We send our love and condolences to his wife, Barbara and to his children. Ann Tenenbaum, Chairman, Daniel R. Stern, President, Lesli Klainberg, Executive Director

Barbara, I truly enjoyed the short time with Al and you. What a privilege! You were such a loving couple and a testimony of love to those around you. I will miss those "hallway chats" we had. My wish for you is that good memories and the support of friends, loved ones, and our Lord get you through this time. 'May the Lord himself, who is our source of peace, give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with you all' 2 Thess 3:16

I grew up with Peggy and her brothers and remember him as gallant and kind as we celebrated Peggy's birthday year after year in the grand dining room, or on tv trays in the den.
Fondest memory was when we saw Seven Brides for Seven Brothers and had a sleepover. Happy memories of Mr. Stern.

I am sorry for your loss. I remember Mr. Stern from my year as an administrative resident at Mount Sinai back in the Seventies. I would sit in on the finance committee meetings and he would always be so gracious and courteous and patiently answer any questions I had. I feel sure that his spirit is continuing its journey with verve and elan.
