Formerly of Kanata, on Friday, March 3, 2017, at the age of 84. Loving husband of Carole Holland for 40 years. John will be sadly missed by his daughter Charmaine, of P.E.I., Siblings Howard (late Marian), of the U.K.; Maude ("Billy" Wilson), and Helen Wigglesworth (late Gerry), of N.S., granddaughter Ashley, of P.E.I., great- grandchildren Holden and Elsie, and by his nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends. Predeceased by parents Ernest Seward Gridley and Ruby Purdy, Stepfather Elmer Purdy, infant son, John Seward, his "larger than life" brother, Herbert Purdy, and nephew Timmy Knickle. John will be fondly remembered by his golf buddy Janice, and his friend and colleague Steve (Pat). The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Longfields Manor, RPN Linda for her most welcome hugs, the Alzheimer Society for their invaluable support, and the Queensway Carleton Hospital for their care during the last few days. John was born in Yarmouth, and grew up in Barrington Passage, N.S. He proudly served as Radio Officer in the RCAF's Maritime Command for 27 years, then, until he retired thirteen years later, he was an administrative officer at DND HQ, in Ottawa.
