KALKIN, Joan Joan Lazarus Kalkin died peacefully in her sleep on May 16, 2020. She was the matriarch of the Kalkin family of Bernardsville, NJ, the loving wife of Eugene Kalkin, the protective mother of Nancy and Adam Kalkin, the adoring grandmother of Graham, Wallace, Georgia, Honor, Dorothea, Maximus and Oliver, and the adored mother-in-law of Lincoln and Jocelyne. Relationships were the center of her life; family was the center of her relationships and she was the center of her large extended family. She ruled gently with charm, love, style and humor. No one will forget her Mitsuoko perfume and beautiful smile. In her public life, she sat on the boards of the Newark Museum, the Shelburne Museum, the Fleming Museum and the board of Trustees of the University of Vermont where she was awarded an honorary doctor of laws. Joan grew up in Newark and Maplewood, NJ and lived in Bernardsville for the last 40 years. She leaves a tender spot in the hearts of everyone who knew her. Gifts in memory of Joan can be directed to the University of Vermont Foundation, attention Kathleen Kelleher, 411 Main St., Burlington, VT 05403 or online at (www.uvmfoundation.org).

A Beautiful lady, with a beautiful soul . When I worked on the Vineyard with her good friend Eleanor she was planning to take me to the flea market. We never made it because I was always working. But since I am back I figured this Summer we would go . Will Miss her great smile and kind words. My condolences to her family.

can only hope that Joan and my mother Cissy Sherman can get together soon and continue the laughs they had for over 40 years.
