I had heard about the wonderful man who passed back in February . Yesterday the vet said my horse, my special buddy of 25 years has an extremely fast growing tumor. I shed a great many tears over this yesterday. Last night I had a dream I felt I had to share and I found this site. I dreamed Bishop Barnett and another gentleman who he said was his brother were with me. Bishop Barnett was telling me that everything would be fine that I had to have faith that the right thing was being done for my 33 year old horse. I asked who the other gentleman was and he told me that it was his brother that died before him. God Bless Bishop Barnett and my prayers go out to the family.

I knew Rev. Thoroughgood many years ago when he was a student at Union Kempsville High School. I was sent there to work as a Guidance Counselor and he was there as a student in his senior year. He was an extremely fine young man at that time and I felt that the Lord had great things in store for him. I am so glad I was privileged to meet him at that time and to know the kind of man that he became. My sympathies are with his family and the church family.

To the First Lady, family and Congregation of New Jerusalem COGIC, my prayers and condolences reach out to you during what I am certain is a most difficult time. Allow the joy of the Lord to continue to the the song in your hearts that takes you from day to day. Weeping may endure for a night- though it seems to be a long night, but know that joy cometh in the morning. May the voice and legacy of the Bishop continue to resonate within the hearts and minds of all who mourn his homegoing. I am new to the area and never had the pleassure of meeting the Bishop, but the Bible assures us that if we hold out and keep the faith, a sure reward awaits us in the presence of our Heavenly Father. Bishop answered the call to receive his reward. Peace and Blessings unto you all from God the Father.

My thoughts and prayers are with Bishop Thoroughgood's family. As you know the scripture teaches "absent from the body and present with the Lord." Bishop loved God, lived righteously, lived what he preached and influenced multitudes. Many people are better today because of Bishop's love for God, love for people and he was a Dynamic Preacher who did not mind proclaiming the truth.

The Church of God In Christ has lost a great leader in what decorum for our Church is, we feel honored and blessed to call this warrior friend and brother. To the Thoroughgood and New Jerusalem Church family:
What a giant warrior in the army of the most high. While participating in the Second Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction of Virginia Convocations Bishop Thoroughgood would invite the congregation in worship with songs like:
“Down at the cross where my Savior died, Down where for cleansing from sin I cried; There to my heart was the blood applied –Glory to His name”

“Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine oh what a fore- taste of glory divine, Heir of salvation purchase of God, Born of His spirit wash in his blood” and

“I just want to take the time to say thank you for all you're done for me”

62 risings and settings of the sun God allowed Bishop Thoroughgood to praise His name. On February 5th 2012 I don't know the time that God called and Bishop Thoroughgood answered…God gives us a blessed assurance that if we are faithful unto death He will give us a crown of life.

Rest Bishop Thoroughgood amongst the great cloud of witnesses encouraging us to make the mark. You cannot crown him King of Kings and Lord of Lords Bishop Thoroughgood until I get there and I will see you (great leader) in the morning.
